Hybrid In Office/Remote Part-Time Paralegal Volunteer

Description of Agency:
CARPLS legal aid is Cook County’s largest provider of free legal services. We have provided over one million legal consultations to low- and moderate-income residents to help them find solutions to their everyday legal matters. CARPLS operates a legal aid hotline and three court-based advice desks for Cook County. We are also partners with the Cook County Legal Aid for Housing & Debt Early Resolution Program (ERP). And for our statewide projects, we are partners with New Leaf Illinois, COVID HELP Illinois, Eviction Help Illinois, and the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network. https://www.carpls.org/about-carpls/
Duties:
The Volunteer’s duties consist of checking Carpls email boxes, uploading documents, emails and other documents to client files, creating follow up tasks for paralegals and attorneys. Additionally, volunteers will assist with drafting of pleadings or conducting legal research on occasion as directed by a supervising attorney. Remote training is provided by the supervising attorneys and paralegals.
Time Commitment:
Seeking individuals who can commit to at least two four-hour shift per week, either 9 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 5 pm for 6 months.
Skills and resources required:
Be currently or recently enrolled in an ABA approved paralegal program. Adept at using Ms. Word, Adobe and MS. Office platforms. Advanced computer skills are required. The ability to work independently after training is a must. Spanish language skills are desired, but not required.
