Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is hiring for the position of Legal Assistant.

 

Duties

  • Duties may include but are not limited to: Provide legal technical assistance to staff attorneys.
  • Track case files, maintain litigation filing systems and monitor the litigation calendar.
  • Responsible for all logistics for staff attorneys with regard to litigation activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of discovery responses and pleadings, and provide critical support functions for preparation for hearings and trials.

  • Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
  • Must be able to type 40 words per minute.

 

Qualifications
For the GS-6: You must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience includes performing administrative and legal support functions, such as maintaining case files, documents and correspondence and providing routine guidance and information to staff, complainants, and/or their representatives on cases.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
