Paralegal – Medical Malpractice Defense

Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym is a well-established and respected medium-sized law firm located in the Chicago Loop. We are seeking a paralegal for our medical malpractice defense team. Must be a smart, energetic, reliable self-starter able to juggle multiple assignments and able to represent our firm in a professional manner.

This is a very active practice with a challenging caseload. The paralegal will have the opportunity to train with and work with outstanding lawyers. While a college degree is required, considerable on-the-job training will be provided.  Preference for candidates with medical malpractice defense experience.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

•      Medical records acquisition, organization, summarization

•      Preparation of records and deposition subpoenas

•      Medical record abstracts

•      Medical record organization

•      Must be willing to step in and assist with other support/clerical functions when the need arises

•      Researching and finding expert witnesses

 

Qualifications

•      A college degree; some graduate school desirable

•      A high level of academic achievement

•      Experience preparing medical record abstracts

•      Solid writing skills and ability to do research

•      Strong team-work and interpersonal skills

•      Ability to work in a fast-paced, dead-line oriented environment

•      Great attention to detail

•      Microsoft Office proficiency

•      Ability to do dictation (Big Hand preferred)

•      Familiarity with electronic document systems; Worldox preferred

•      Familiarity with E-filing
