Jennifer Lavin is a divorce and family law attorney who practices primarily as a Child Representative/Guardian Ad Litem, as well as a Parenting Coordinator, Mediator, Collaborative Law Attorney, and Litigation Attorney. Jennifer Lavin’s practice is primarily based in Cook County, although I practice in DuPage, Kane, Lake, and Will Counties as well.
We are seeking a self-starter and a critical thinker who anticipates tasks and needs of the firm and takes initiative accordingly. This high-level position requires expertise, skill, accountability, and
responsibility in the role, as well as the ability to handle a multitude of tasks and/or a single-focused task as needed in a fast-paced family law firm. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working
remotely and individually in a flexible environment while part of a supervised team.
Compensation Plus Benefits:
• Base salary of $50,000 to $65,000, depending upon experience

Experience:
Preferred: At least 1 year of experience working as a Legal Assistant in family law.
Work Schedule:
40 hours per week, Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Work Location:
Fully remote but must be able to meet in person as may be needed pursuant to court and/or firm gatherings.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ability to support an attorney and multiple law clerks in a fast-paced primarily Child Representative and Guardian Ad Litem family law practice.
• Manage the attorney’s calendar in a primarily Child Representative and Guardian Ad Litem family
law practice, including but not limited to docketing court dates, deadlines, and reminders.
• Coordinate and schedule calls and meetings involving litigants, children, attorneys, professionals, collaterals, and clients.
• Assist the attorney with monthly billing and with the preparation and filing of quarterly Child Representative and Guardian Ad Litem invoices for the firm.
• Organize and maintain the firm’s electronic files using the firm’s practice management software.
• Draft and electronically submit court orders.
• File documents initially and in existing cases on a recurring and weekly basis using the firm’s
practice management software.
• Draft and file pleadings, including but not limited to Child Representative, Guardian Ad Litem, and attorney cases pursuant to divorce and parentage proceedings.
• Electronically file any and all documents as needed and update the attorney with any and all changes in electronic filing requirements.
• Internal and external case communications as needed, including but not limited to daily and weekly communications with the attorney regarding task management.
• Other duties as required.
Required Skills:
• Self-starter and critical thinker.
• Anticipates needs and takes initiative.
• Highly proficient in written and oral communication.
• Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
• Extensive experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point. Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Zoom preferred.
• Must be organized and able to multi-task.
