Intellectual Property Litigation Project Assistant
 
 Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP is a mid-sized Chicago Loop law firm seeking an Intellectual Property Litigation Project Assistant for the Intellectual Property department. This is an entry-level position that will provide support to Paralegals and Litigation Attorneys.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, organize, and manage e-files and file tracking systems for case materials
  • Update and maintain correspondence, pleadings, and discovery documents for quick reference and retrieval
  • Maintain and organize deposition transcripts and exhibits and create index tables for quick reference and retrieval
  • Apply Bates numbers to documents (manually or electronically)
  • Perform queries and print results utilizing in-house litigation support databases (DeskSite, Case Notebook, Relativity) or vendor-hosted databases (e.g.: Kroll, DISCO)
  • Organize document sets into a specific order (i.e., chronological, by issue, by witness, bates number order, etc.)
  • Quality check various types of document set reproductions
  • Physically file documents at the courthouse
  • Perform document searches requested by attorneys from court or government agencies via electronic systems or in person
  • Prepare litigation documents for production, including redacting if necessary, and prepare index table from litigation support databases
  • Assemble and organize witness files needed for depositions, including retrieval of particular documents and/or information from certain files
  • Communicate with attorneys and paralegals with respect to specific case files
  • Monitor electronic docket filings through state and federal agency and commission websites; update in cooperation with the firm docketing department
  • Assist with assembly of large mailings and prepare certificates of service
  • Obtain case law or docket information via internet, Westlaw and LexisNexis at the request of attorneys or paralegals
  • In some instances, assist in collecting evidence by shopping for client or adversary’s products
  • Assist the IP docket department with overflow needs

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and solve problems with limited guidance and management
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Basic understanding of MS Access and/or other databases applications a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Sound judgment, analytical skills, curiosity, and practicality; this includes the ability to see trends and ask questions to predict problems before they come to fruition
  • Ability and willingness to meet deadlines, including those of a last minute nature; willingness to work overtime if necessary
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and customer service
  • Strong technical aptitude and understanding, including ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, and push while sitting or standing
